Seminar focuses on dealing with anxiety and depression
A free seminar that will outline a comprehensive approach to deal with anxiety and depression is planned for Monday, Oct. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge. Presented by Maine Township’s MaineStay Youth & Family Services in recognition of Depression Awareness Month, the seminar will focus on issues that residents identified as important for the organization to address in a community survey conducted last year.
According to experts in the field, children, adolescents, and adults are increasingly suffering from anxiety and depression. Approaching epidemic proportions, these conditions are worsening in youth because of academic demands and social stressors. Adults are faced with increased demands of work, relationships, parenting, and financial pressures. The good news is that both issues are highly treatable and there are many ways to learn to become less anxious and less depressed.
Dr. Margaret Wehrenberg, who is a licensed clinical psychologist, will discuss how to recognize and appropriately respond to anxiety and depression. The author of The Anxious Brain and Anxiety + Depression: Effective Treatment of the Big Two Co-Occurring Disorders will offer specific, practical tips on how to manage these concerns. Dr. Wehrenberg, a sought after speaker who consistently gets high ratings for her dynamic style and high-quality content, has also written articles for Psychotherapy Networker magazine.
