Six Amusing Chicago Theater Companies Unite to Bare it All at Stage 773's Spring One Act Festival SKIN IN THE GAME

Check out Stage 773's newest Spring One Act Festival, SKIN IN THE GAME

CHICAGO, IL – Following the incredibly success of All in the Timing One Act Festival in Spring 2015 and the Halloween Edition in Fall 2015, Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont, is thrilled to present the bold, unapologetic sextet of one act comedies, SKIN IN THE GAME, as Stage 773’s Spring 2016 One Act Festival. SKIN IN THE GAME opens April 29 and runs every Friday night at 10:30 PM through May 27. Six companies ambitiously accepted the daring challenge to create a ten-minute, one-act comedy that exposes an element of nudity. This collection of six new shows uncovers the beauty, vulnerability, and uproarious truths about the human body as some of Chicago’s most creative, off-loop theater companies share the stage.

The cross-pollination of Stage 773 One Act Festival veterans and Festival first-timers blends each company’s unique aesthetic, ensuring audience enjoyment and laughter from start to finish during SKIN IN THE GAME. This lively line-up features Hobo Junction Productions in “Top Dick” and Indie Boots Theatre’s performance entitled “Happy May in June.” The Organic Theater Company follows with “Garbot,” while Right Brain Project presents “Maiden.” Next up is The Living Canvas with “Cathedrals” and The Ruckus gets the last laugh in “Way We Kiss.”

SKIN IN THE GAME proves that nakedness on stage is powerful. Nudity can be full or partial, male or female, in one instance or many, and for comedic or dramatic effect; however, it must be an essential component of the performance. Unified by humorous exposure, Stage 773 is proud to showcase six theater companies as they valiantly collaborate to reveal courage using comedy.

Hobo Junction Productions was founded in 2008 with a mission to develop and produce novel comedies for the city this company knows and loves. With a dedicated commitment to exclusively staging original plays and musicals that tackle relevant local issues, Hobo Junction Productions ensures a fresh, unique story guaranteed to captivate the audience and make them laugh until it hurts.

Indie Boots Theatre was founded in 2012 to create and appreciate art that features marginalized perspectives on what’s funny, whose stories are actually worth telling, and how the world really works. The company’s short and full-length plays and musicals excite collaboration and promote the shaping of alliances among activists and artists throughout Chicago. Indie Boots holds local, annual festivals, curated programs, and special events to share compelling independent works, incite contagious laughter, and stimulate engaging discussions within the community.

Organic Theater Company was founded in 1970 and has since advanced into the 21st century with an ongoing push of the look and feel of what is now simply known as “an Organic production.” As an established presenter of both adapted classics and new works in rotating repertory, the permanent ensemble collectively acquired extensive training to ensure bold, high-quality productions sure to impress any audience.

Right Brain Project was formed in 2001 and incorporated in 2005 through the combined passions to bring intimate stories to life on the Chicago stage while uniting the audience with both the story and the actor. Aiming to strike the rawest of emotions to shake, move, uplift, and inspire the crowd, the Right Brain Project challenges the notion of the modern theatre experience through the company’s dauntlessly unique aesthetic – “Epic Minimalism.”

The Living Canvas was founded in 2001 – yet dates back to the mid 1980s – as a celebration of the beautifully powerful human form through both visual and performance art. The texture of projected images, accompanied by shadow and light, unmasks the complexity and meaning of the nude body as a canvas. Now, The Living Canvas has evolved into a live performance that links these images to movement and self-discovery. These daring performers break societal barriers and encourage audiences through exploring controversial matters such as body acceptance, oppression, self-esteem, and beauty.

The Ruckus was founded in 2006 on the principle that the best art comes from fearless collaborations. With an aim to create a company without borders, The Ruckus is universally composed of multi-disciplinary artists who don’t play by the traditional rules. Committed to culture, growth, and development, this company strives to create from the ground up, breaking down the walls of common methods used to shape new works and welcoming each and every challenge ahead. The Ruckus leads both the audience and the artists along an unexpected journey of art and ultimately, creates ruckus.
