The Top 25 Highest-Paid School Superintendents in Illinois

School superintendents have important jobs running our schools and ensuring our children receive a high-quality education, and school boards often pay top dollar to attract top talent.

On average, local revenue provides 66 percent of total school funding for the state’s 863 districts. It’s not much of surprise to see most of the highest-paid superintendents work for suburban school districts where property tax rates are among the highest in Illinois, though you probably don’t need to be reminded about the recent property tax bill you received.

Here’s a list of the 25 highest-paid school superintendents in 2014, along with the number of schools and students they oversaw.

If you don’t see your local superintendent among the top 25, there’s a data table with each school chief in the state, though you’ll have to know his or her name as the Illinois State Board of Education does not include district names in its salary data. Illinois Report Card is great source for information about each school district.
