The free, donation-funded trip gave veterans a full day visiting Washington, D.C. memorials, with organizers already planning future flights for more area veterans to experience the same welcome home.

2. Historic beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen draws pilgrims from across the U.S. and around the world (dioceseofraleigh.org) — Peoria will host nine days of prayer, special Masses, and a hometown festival tied to Archbishop Fulton J. Local Catholics can register for Holy Hours, Masses of Thanksgiving, and the Sheen Awards Gala, or simply enjoy the festival atmosphere around the Spalding Pastoral Center.
