• Hogan praised for decades' service to Peru (shawlocal.com) — Peru city officials have formally accepted the retirement of longtime broadcaster and 911 board member Joe Hogan, praising his decades of volunteer service to the city’s emergency dispatch system. Hogan helped bring enhanced 911 service to Peru and represented the city on regional dispatch and emergency telephone boards, earning recognition from police leaders and Mayor Ken Kolowski.
   

• Peru adopts 'spiller pays' ordinance to recover cleanup costs from hazardous spills (shawlocal.com) — Peru’s City Council has approved a new “spiller pays” ordinance, shifting hazardous spill cleanup costs from taxpayers to the companies or drivers responsible. Fines can reach $750 per incident, with triple damages for willful violations, and the city can now bill hourly for personnel and vehicles used during cleanups, including major incidents like train derailments or tanker rollovers.
   

• Future of Mendota YMCA uncertain as Illinois Valley YMCA explores closure (shawlocal.com) — Talks are underway between the Illinois Valley YMCA in Peru and Mendota officials about the struggling Mendota YMCA, and closure of that site is on the table. The Peru-based Illinois Valley YMCA has promised to keep Mendota programs running at least through August while both sides explore options, with a decision expected in May.
