• Harrisburg advances to sectional in baseball (bnd.com) — Pinckneyville’s baseball team will face Harrisburg at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Class 2A Benton Sectional, with a spot in Saturday’s title game on the line. Harrisburg enters at 30-6 after winning its own regional, hoping to avenge a 5-2 loss to Pinckneyville earlier this season.

• Ola Hoorebeke (riverbender.com) — Many in Pinckneyville may remember Ola Mae Van Hoorebeke, who worked as a secretary at Pinckneyville High School in the early 1960s and has passed away at 98. Her life took her across southern Illinois and beyond, and services are planned Saturday in O’Fallon and Du Quoin.
