189 Tickets Written In Plainfield Police Christmas, NYE Enforcement

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police "showed zero tolerance for offenders" during its Christmas and New Year's enforcement campaign in which officers issued a total of 189 tickets, officials said Thursday.

The enforcement period started Dec. 16 and lasted through Jan. 2.

Here's a look at the breakdown of tickets issued:

• 87 seat belt
• 63 speeding
• 39 other citations

Police also made one impaired driving arrest during the two-week-long campaign.

Comparatively, the last time Plainfield officers participated in a campaign — from Nov. 18-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday — police issued 107 seat belt tickets and 33 for speeding, Patch reported.

The Plainfield Police Department was among multiple law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois that participated in the holiday "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign showing no tolerance for alcohol and drug-impaired driving.

"We can't stress this enough: Impaired driving is illegal, potentially deadly behavior, and it puts the driver, passengers, and all road users at risk," officials said in a news release. "Further, failing to buckle up lessens your chance to survive a crash and buckling up is your best defense against an impaired driver."

The holiday enforcement campaign was administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation using federal highway safety funds.
