66th Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade Steps Off Oct. 7

The festivities step off at 9 a.m. in downtown Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — With the theme "Transportation.....Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow," the 2017 Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7 in downtown Plainfield. Police said the 66th annual parade, set to step off at 9 a.m., will cause traffic congestion and delays in and around Plainfield and near Plainfield Central High School.

Unless you're participating in or viewing the parade, motorists are asked to avoid the downtown area on Saturday morning between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and noon due to slower traffic movement and road closures.

The following roads will close starting at 6 a.m. Saturday:

  • Ottawa Street (west of the DuPage River) between Van Dyke Road and Ira Jones Middle School. Ira Jones Middle School and Village Center Drive near the Village Hall will also become controlled access for parade entries.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. Saturday, police will close the following roadways:

  • U.S. Route 126 (Lockport & Main Streets) at Wallin Drive, to Route 59
  • Lockport Street from James Van Dyke Road to Route 59
  • James Street from Lockport Street to Fort Beggs Drive
  • Ottawa Street (east of DuPage River) from James Street to Illinois Street
  • Fox River Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
  • Des Plaines Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
  • Illinois Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
  • Commercial Street from Illinois Street to James Street
  • Fort Beggs Drive from James Street to Pratt Lane

No traffic lanes on Route 59 will be closed, but drivers are advised that traffic congestion and delays are expected. All roads are expected to re-open between 11:30 a.m. and noon Saturday.

The event coincides with Plainfield Central's homecoming football game against Oswego East on Saturday. Plainfield Central and Plainfield East are each hosting their homecoming dances the night of Oct. 7. Plainfield East's homecoming game against Romeoville High School is on Friday.

Plainfield North and Plainfield South celebrated their homecoming events over the weekend, hosting their dances on Sept. 30.

The current forecast for Saturday calls for cloudy skies with a 60 percent chance of rain and a high of 67 degrees.
