75 Seat Belt Violations Issued In Thanksgiving Campaign: PD

PLAINFIELD, IL — Police issued a total of 133 tickets during its Thanksgiving enforcement period, which lasted from Nov. 19 through Nov. 29. The numbers, released Monday, include 75 seat belt citations and 28 speeding tickets.

One person was also arrested for impaired driving, Plainfield police said.

The campaign, enforced not only by the Plainfield Police Department but by more than 200 local agencies, aimed at keeping the roads safe during one of the busiest times on Illinois roads.

"During the mobilization, extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours, when statistics show the most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur," police said in a news release.

Here's a breakdown of citations issued in the 10 days:

• 2 suspended/revoked/no valid license
• 10 drug arrests
• 1 illegal transportation of alcohol
• 3 illegal use of cellphone
• 28 speeding
• 75 seat belt and child safety seat
• 14 other citations

In neighboring Romeoville, whose police department also participated in the campaign, officers issued 12 seat belt citations and seven for cellphone usage, Patch reported.

The enforcement, part of statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns, was paid for using federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
