• Plainfield's Bags of Hope Marks 10 Years, Honors Late Champion Tom Hernandez (thetimesweekly.com) — Plainfield families can celebrate 10 years of the Bags of Hope backpack food program on Sept. 18 at The Parsonage Events while honoring the late District 202 champion Tom Hernandez. The nonprofit, now based at Plainfield Academy, quietly sends hundreds of food-filled backpacks to local students each week and needs more Wednesday volunteers and community support to keep up with demand.
   

• EF-5 Tornado Slams Into Plainfield 36 Years Ago Today (wjol.com) — Plainfield is remembering the devastating EF-5 tornado that struck on Aug. 28, 1990, killing 29 people and destroying or damaging nearly 1,500 homes across Plainfield, Crest Hill, and Joliet.
