On Wednesday, February 1st, St. Mary Immaculate students in Grades 4-8 assembled to witness St. Mary’s 2012 Spelling Bee. The winner, eighth grader Amanda Vollmer, edged out seventeen other 6th, 7th, and 8th grade schoolmates, each a previous winner of spelling bees in their language arts classes. Bridget Valenti, a sixth grader, finished in 2nd place.
Amanda’s winning word was “replete.” It took eighteen rounds and 141 words to determine the school champion.
Ms. Vollmer earned the right to compete in the Will County Spelling Bee to be held at Lewis University, One University Pkwy, Romeoville, IL on Tuesday, March 8th at 6:00pm.

The Will County Spelling Bee is sponsored by Dr. Jennifer-Bertino Tarrant, Regional Superintendent, Will County Regional Office of Education, Lewis University’s College of Education and Com Ed.
The winner of the Will County Spelling Bee will participate in National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C., May 27th through June 1, 2012.
