
Evelyn L. Pippin, age 82, of Aurora, mother of a Plainfield resident, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Rush-Copley Hospital.
She was born March 27, 1930 in Bluefield, West Virginia. She was the youngest of 5 children born to William and Leah Loomis. At age 5, her father died unexpectedly and the family moved to Honaker, Virginia where she grew up and was a 1947 graduate of Honaker High School.
She started her career right out of high school as a telephone operator with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company at a time when people picked up the phone to hear the operator say, "number please." A few years later, she transferred to St. Paul, Virginia where she met and married Raymond Pippin on January 23, 1955.

Evelyn lived and worked for phone companies in Baltimore, Maryland and Miami, Florida before leaving to start a family. In 1962, she came to Aurora and made it her home. In 1979, she resumed her career with the phone company working at Western Electric in Montgomery until her retirement in 1985.
Faith, friends and family were the most important things in Evelyn's life. She was a kind, loving person who loved everybody and everybody loved her. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, working word-search puzzles and going out to eat. Evelyn was a member of Benton St. Apostolic Church where she was baptized on March 3, 1972 and filled with the Holy Ghost on April 5, 1972.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years Raymond Pippin of Aurora; sons, Michael (Holly) of Aurora and Glen (Irene) of Plainfield; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Balderas, Nicholas, Zachary and Benjamin Pippin, all of Aurora, Alan and Allison Pippin of Plainfield and Katie Hilborn of Breckenridge, Colorado along with several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Joyce, in 2002 as well as her siblings, Frances Ann Loomis-Branham, William Loomis, Elizabeth Sentelik, and Ernest Loomis.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 4 pm 8 pm at Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the chapel, the Reverend Donald Savage officiating followed by a graveside service at Spring Lake Cemetery in Aurora.
