Maud Gwathmey Obituary

Maud (Liz) Gwathmey, age 76, mother of a Plainfield resident, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 16, 2011.

The Indonesian native was born in 1934 and immigrated to the Netherlands following World War II. Maud met her loving husband of nearly 51 years in Driebergin, Netherlands, in 1957. They married in 1960 and raised two daughters and a son in Shorewood, IL.

Preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Eugenié Messchaert, a sister Constance and a brother Richard Messchaert.

Maud is survived by her loving husband, Hewlet Gwathmey, her daughters, Monique (Donald) Matthews of Corydon, IN; Michele Gwathmey of Plainfield, and a son, Mark (Carolyn) Gwathmey of Upper Marlboro, MD., sisters, Nancy Rugebregt and Hettie Messchaert, grandchildren Melissa, Aaron, Sean, Colton, Cheyenne, Shelby and Marcos, her mother-in-law, Julia O. Richardson. Her friends Barbara Heilbing, Mary Neumann, the Boosters, the Duncans, the Isabellies, the Birsa's and other "adopted" children along the way shared in her love and now join us in mourning the loss of such a loving and strong woman. We take comfort in knowing that she is in God's Kingdom.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 20, from 4-8 pm., the funeral service will be on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be a grave side service immediately following the funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
