Best School Districts: Where Does Plainfield Rank?

Niche.com recently released its 2017 rankings of the best school districts in Illinois.

For most people, a lot of factors come into play when choosing where to live -- and if you're a parent or planning to become a parent, the quality of local schools can be a deciding factor.

With that in mind, Niche.com, a website dedicated to analyzing data to provide information on the best neighborhoods and schools, releases a list each year of the best school districts in the country and state. The site says it "ranks over 8,000 public school districts based on statistics and millions of opinions from students and parents."

The site’s 2017 best schools lists just came out this week, and Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 came in at No. 72 of the top 100, earning a "B+" grade.

At No. 1 was New Trier Township High School District No. 203 in Winnetka.

Plainfield schools received mostly positive reviews from parents and students.

"My experience as a student at Plainfield South High School was amazing! The school community was friendly, ecstatic, and loving. The school pride everyone displays in the school is crazy," said one former student, who gave District 202 four out of five stars. "Most of the teachers knew how to treat their students and understood how each one of us would learn differently. It was an amazing school that everyone in the area should check out."

"I chose to live in this area so my children could be a part of this district," said one parent. "I have been extremely happy with the elementary, middle and high school. I feel they have provided my children with an excellent foundation for learning and the teachers and administrators have been nothing but supportive and involved in my children's education."

Reviewers gave Plainfield schools seven "excellent" ratings, four "very good" ratings, five "average" ratings and one "poor" rating.

Niche.com uses factors including state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, public school district ratings and more to reach its ratings and assign "grades" to school districts.

The district got the following grades for an overall B+:

  • Academics: A-
  • Teachers: B+
  • Clubs & Activities: B
  • Diversity: A-
  • College Readiness: A-
  • Health & Safety: B
