Businesses, Leary Firefighters Foundation Host Plainfield Fire Dept. Benefit
Guinness, Diageo, CITY Beverage and Durbin's will sponsor March 14 event in Plainfield.

A Plainfield business will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early with an event to benefit local firefighters at Durbin’s of Plainfield, 16031 S. Lincoln Highway.
Premium beverage company Diageo and Guinness have teamed up with the Denis Leary Firefighters Foundation to give back to firefighters across the country.
“We’ve taken it to another level and made it local,” said Dave Dwyer, a representative of Guinness brands for CITY Beverage Illinois, which has partnered with Diageo and Durbin’s to bring the program to Plainfield.

During the event, patrons can purchase paper fireman’s helmets for $1 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the fire department.
Diageo/Guinness USA, CITY Beverage and Durbin’s will join forces to make a donation above and beyond what is raised that night, Dwyer said.
Durbin’s patrons will also be able to continue purchasing helmets until the end of March, with 100 percent of proceeds going to the fire department.
“We’re a big partner with [Diageo], and it’s a great thing,” said Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton. He said the fire district plans to use the proceeds to enhance training for local firefighters.
“What we’re trying to do is raise money for our burn tower,” which would be built at the fire department’s new headquarters on 135th Street. “We want to keep our firefighters at the top of their game.”
Plainfield firefighters will be in attendance at the event, Stratton said.
The fundraiser will kick off Durbin’s first St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Plainfield. Patrons can check out a list of events and specials on the Durbin’s of Plainfield Facebook page.
