Chinese Eatery to Reopen with New Menu, New Name

A shuttered Plainfield restaurant will get soon get new life, according to the owner.

Joyce Lee said the former , which opened in 2008 at 13610 S. Route 59, will reopen as full-service sushi and Chinese restaurant. 

Lee said Ukai Sushi & Chinese will open within the next 45 to 50 days.

Village Planner Michael Garrigan said Lee recently applied for new signage for the revamped eatery.

“It’s getting closer,” Garrigan said of the impending grand opening.

Lee is no stranger to Plainfield. Until 2007, she owned the Joyce Lee China Buffet at 15515 S. Division St. A remains open, Lee said. 

Lee said she decided to close her most recent Plainfield restaurant because it was tough to make a profit on a buffet. 

“Now, we’re trying to do a dine-in restaurant,” she said.

The new location will include a more health-conscious menu including sushi and smoothies, in addition to Chinese favorites, Lee said.
