Plainfield Central alumna becomes 1st president of Latino Social Work Organization at U of I

My name is Ruth Vazquez, I am a 2019 graduate of Plainfield Central High School. I wanted to be able to reach out to you to discuss my higher education accomplishments that I'm very proud of as a first-generation Mexican student. To begin, I graduated from Joliet Junior College with my associate in arts and transferred to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I have been able to pave the way for myself as a student here. I was more than fortunate to receive the highest awarding Yvonne Gilmore scholarship at the School of Social Work. I was also given the honor to be a part of the transfer honor society Tau Sigma last spring. The most recent achievement I have was being given the amazing opportunity to become the first president of the Latino Social Work Organization that is currently being introduced to the School of Social Work.

Brennan Phillips, Plainfield, Ill., graduated from Bismarck State College with an Associate in Arts degree during the college's 83rd commencement ceremony on May 12, 2023, at the Bismarck Event Center.

Plainfield resident named to MIAA Academic Honor Roll

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the recipients of the 2022-23 MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

In total, 273 individual student-athletes at Trine University were recognized by the MIAA on the 2022-23 Academic Honor Roll, the most of any league schools. Student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport to be eligible.

Colin Nicoski of Plainfield was among those honored. Nicoski is part of the men's soccer team at Trine and is majoring in civil engineering.
