Plainfield South grad makes dean’s list at Baylor University

Mireya Ruiz, a graduate of Plainfield South High School, was named to the dean’s list at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Ruiz, who is majoring in marketing and journalism, will graduate in May.

Local students named to RIT dean's list

The following students were named to the Dean's List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete", "D" or "F"; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

Plainfield student named to fall 2022 dean's list at John Carroll University

Bethany College is pleased to announce that Alicia Dixon of Plainfield, IL has been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2022-23 semester.

Those named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of 3.65 or better while completing a minimum of 12 graded credit hours.

Plainfield student among top scorers in business competition

Five Augustana College seniors scored in the top 10% of all teams worldwide who have ever competed in the Marketplace Simulations virtual business competition.

From Plainfield, Augustana's high-performing team included Ava Rogers, majoring in accounting.

Teams of students "ran" their own businesses during Dr. Amanda Baugous' January term business class. Augustana's top team out-scored tens of thousands of teams who have competed from top graduate and undergraduate business programs around the world.

Placing in the top 10% reflects a high level of business acumen and work ethic, according to the Marketplace Simulations website. The team must successfully execute a complete business strategy in an evolving market, using evidence-based decision-making.

Student from Plainfield recognized for conservation work

Central College students in the Fall 2022 Conservation Biology and Ecology of Iowa class took part in the seeding of a new prairie around Lake Red Rock Dam. Russell Benedict, professor of biology at Central and director of Prairies for Agriculture Project, orchestrated students from his class as they developed a seed mixture and gathered seeds from various sources. They planted the prairie in early December 2022.

The location of the prairie will make it a valuable educational resource for people who are visiting Lake Red Rock. Students in future courses will help develop signs to improve the public's knowledge of tallgrass prairie, one of the most endangered ecosystems on earth. The prairie, which will take several years to become established, potentially can grow at the site for centuries, with proper care.

Conservation Biology and Ecology of Iowa course students who participated included Anthony Cervelli, of Plainfield. He is part of the Class of 2023.
