Crisis Reporting System Launches At Plainfield District 202

Safe2Help Illinois is a 24/7 helpline that offers students a safe and confidential way to share information on school safety issues.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Students at Plainfield School District 202 now have 24/7 access to a safe and confidential helpline for sharing information on school safety issues, officials announced.

District 202 joined a new statewide school safety program called Safe2Help Illinois, which was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 as a prevention method for suicide, bullying and violence, among other things.

"These are real concerns with our students and to have one place to seek help will be a great benefit," Superintendent Glenn Wood said in a statement. "The safety of our staff and students will always be our top priority."

Students have a few modes of connecting with a trained crisis professional. The helpline can be accessed by visiting the website, texting 72332, calling 844-472-3345, emailing HELP@Safe2HelpIL.com or downloading the app. According to a news release, the information, once vetted, will be "immediately shared" with District 202 officials, mental health professionals or local law enforcement, depending on the tip.

District officials stressed the program is not intended to punish, suspend or expel students but rather encourage them to "seek help before harm."
