'Crying In H Mart' Author To Virtually Visit Plainfield Public Library
Michelle Zauner, who released the memoir — her first book — in 2021, is perhaps best known as the musician Japanese Breakfast.
PLAINFIELD, IL — The author of the bestselling memoir "Crying in H Mart" will be making a virtual appearance at the Plainfield Public Library June 30.
Michelle Zauner, a musician and author, published "Crying in H Mart," her first book, in 2021 as an expansion of an essay by the same name published in The New Yorker in 2018. The book shares stories about its author's life "growing up Korean American, losing her mother, and forging her own identity," as Goodreads describes it.
"Vivacious and plainspoken, lyrical and honest, Zauner's voice is as radiantly alive on the page as it is onstage," the synopsis reads. "Rich with intimate anecdotes that will resonate widely, and complete with family photos, Crying in H Mart is a book to cherish, share, and reread."

Zauner is perhaps best known as the musician Japanese Breakfast who creates "dreamy, shoegaze-inspired" indie pop. This year, she was even nominated for two Grammys — Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album for the critically acclaimed 10-track album "Jubilee" (2021).
During the Plainfield event, taking place via webinar from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Zauner will be joined in conversation by Jessica Hopper, a music critic, producer and author based in Chicago.
