D202 Plans To Launch 'Shark Tank'-Like Elective For Students
The Plainfield district is looking to work with volunteers from local companies to mentor and collaborate with students on the project.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 plans to launch a "Shark Tank"-like initiative for high school students at the start of the 2024-25 school year, officials announced.
The district is launching the elective program, called INCubatoredu, at all four high schools as a way to teach students the skills and behaviors of entrepreneurs.
Students will spend two semesters developing a business model and seeking market input to determine a viable product or service. The goal is to prepare students to develop adaptable, real-world skills for their future careers, according to a news release.

The INCubatoredu program will culminate with a "pitch night" competition before a volunteer board of advisors or investors.
As part of the program, officials are looking to work with volunteers from area companies to mentor and collaborate with students. The representatives — who will be called "community champions" — will serve as liaisons between the schools and the business communities.

Officials said they also need coaches to work with students in class. Volunteers won't teach class but rather support teachers and students during the year.
Businesses interested in participating are asked to fill out a form by March 1. The district will be hosting an informational meeting on March 18.
