D202 Students Win All Top Prizes In Plainfield Library Writing Contest

Students in grades fourth through sixth wrote original short stories varying from 500 to 650 words.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Students from Plainfield School District 202 came away with all top prizes in Plainfield Public Library's short story contest.

The library's received 46 entries from 16 schools, in District 202 and others, as part of its Short Story Contest this year. Open to students in grades fourth through sixth, the contest required students to write original short stories ranging from 500 to 650 words.

New York Times bestselling author Liesl Shurtliff, known for the (Fairly) True Tales series and the Time Castaways trilogy, was the judge of this year's contest.

4th Grade

  • First Place: "Bill's Story" by Henry Hohman (River View Elementary School)
  • Second Place: "The Book Fairy" by Inaya Ahmed (Lincoln Elementary School)
  • Third Place: "The Missing Crown Guard" by Aliyah Lopez (Eichelberger Elementary School)

5th Grade

  • First Place: "Too Many!" by Maya Batiller (Eagle Pointe Elementary School)
  • Second Place: "CF Stingray" by Nala Panozzo (Lincoln Elementary School)
  • Third Place: "The World in the Time of Me" by Aarav Sharma (Lincoln Elementary School)

6th Grade

  • First Place: Gone by Noelle Veenker (Ira Jones Middle School)
  • Second Place: The Immigrant by Lily Brandon (Indian Trail Middle School)
  • Third Place: The Ocean My Joy by Luisa Savazzini (Heritage Grove Middle School)
