Drug Take-Back Day Initiative Planned For April At Plainfield PD

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department will collect unwanted or expired prescription medications as part of National Drug Take-Back Day, officials announced.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 at the police station, 14300 S. Coil Plus Drive in Plainfield.

During the event, which happens bi-annually in April and November, staff will accept prescription medications, used medical sharps and diabetic supplies. Small, pint-size bottles of cough syrups will be accepted if they are sealed in their original container.

Items that "absolutely will not" be accepted include needles and illicit illegal substances. Officials cited marijuana and heroin as examples.

The event gives community members a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs. By doing so, it prevents medications from being flushed down the toilet and ending up in local drinking water supply.
