Electric Park Closed During Plainfield Patriotic Picnic

Also known as Riverfront Park, the site will be closed due to NICOR pipeline work.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Due to ongoing construction on a NICOR gas pipeline, Electric Park/Riverfront Park, 24321 W. Lockport St., will be closed during the Plainfield Park District's Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks on July 3. The picnic begins at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

"NICOR Gas and Michels Corporation have advised the Village that multiple hazards will exist on the property making it unsafe to use as a viewing location for the fireworks show," Plainfield police said in a release. "In years past, people have parked and watched the fireworks show from this location. However, this year, barricades and fencing will be in place advising the park and the bike path running through it will be closed to everyone not associated with the construction project."

Police advise fireworks-watchers to avoid Electric Park and choose a safer location for the evening's fireworks show. Suggested viewing locations are Plainfield Central High School and St. Mary Immaculate Church on Route 59.
