Fire District Oct 15th Regular Meeting Video
About 100 taxpaying residents attend, more support expressed for DC Jon Stratton, but nothing informative expressed by board

Below are links to video recording of the Plainfield Fire Protection District meeting of October 15th, 2014, totally about 35 minutes of run-time.

This is my personal take on what I saw and recorded at this meeting:

1. During the open session the attorney for the board reminded the public of their policy for public comment and about a half dozen residents spoke in opposition to the board’s conduct in placing Deputy Chief Jon Stratton on paid administrative leave on October 1st.
2. While people continue to speak in praise of DC Stratton’s character and work record, questions are also being raised about the cost of this situation to the taxpayer, between paid leave for Stratton and attorney fees and any potential settlement that may be reached.
3. People are still blaming the board of trustees and are outright suspicious of at least some of them, and definitely suspicious of this recent action and demanding answers and explanations be made to the public.
4. I raised a question on how and why attorneys were involved so quickly—just one week after Stratton’s leave was issued—and what is going on that it seems suddenly apparent that the PFPD is looking to reach a settlement. Over what? Why? For how much?
5. Following closed session, the board had no action items or any statement to the public and there was an audible reaction of disgust about that from the crowd.
The next regular meeting of the board of trustees would be on Tuesday, November 11th. Should a special meeting be called in the interim, I’ll try to help spread the word and ask others to do the same.
