PLAINFIELD, IL — As more time passes, the more painful it gets for Plainfield residents to see the price of a tank of gas.
Prices in Illinois continue to skyrocket, with the average price for gas being $5.53 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA. That's 40 cents more expensive than a week ago and about $1 — 94 cents, to be exact — more than a month ago.
At around $5.83 per gallon in Will County, gas prices were significantly above the state average.

Nationally Wednesday, the average was still under $5 at about $4.96 per gallon.
