Incoming Plainfield North Freshman Wins MLB Junior Home Run Derby
With 14 home runs in the final round, Logan Huegel was named champion at Los Angeles' Dodgers Stadium on July 16.

PLAINFIELD, IL — One rising freshman at Plainfield North High School is about to begin his high school career with a 14U MLB Junior Home Run Derby title under his belt.
Logan Huegel was named champion at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 16. He had 14 home runs in the final round, and 29 in total, according to Tom Hernandez, Plainfield School District 202's director of community relations.
"Playing at Dodgers Stadium gave me the point of view of what it is like to be a professional baseball player," Huegel said in a statement. "It was very cool to hit in a stadium that MLB players play at."

The student said he has been playing baseball since he was able to walk and hold a ball. At 11 years old, he signed up for the Derby after seeing a commercial, later qualifying and making it to the finals in Cincinnati, according to Hernandez.
In 2020, the Derby was postponed due to COVID-19. A year later, he won third place in the final in Atlanta.

"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me," Huegel said of winning this year's Derby. "I will always cherish and remember every second of it."
The student plans on continuing his baseball career at Plainfield North High School.
