PLAINFIELD, IL — Starting in the fall, Liberty Elementary School's current principal will switch roles to serve as director of middle school curriculum and instruction. The District 202 Board of Education approved Michelle Imbordino's assignment at its Monday meeting.

Imbordino will replace Paula Sereleas, who was recently appointed as the new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, a position held by Glenn Wood, who will take over next year as superintendent of schools. Wood will take over from Lane Abrell once he retires.

Imbordino, a 2003 graduate of Plainfield Central High School, has served as Liberty's principal since 2016. Before holding the school's top spot, she had been Eichelberger Elementary's assistant principal since 2012.

The administrator started working in District 202 in 2007 as a first-grade teacher at Freedom Elementary School, district officials said. Before Plainfield's district, Imbordino taught for a year at a private school in Lisle.

"In this new role, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work closely with staff to support our curriculum development and implementation," Imbordino said in a statement. "I hope to use my knowledge of where the students are coming from at the elementary level as well as my passion for ensuring that all students' needs are being met in order to help to foster their success in middle school and their future in District 202.

Shannon Miller-Finlayson, district director for middle school administration and personnel, said Imbordino's skills and years of experience will help translate her elementary leadership skills to the district level.

"She has a fundamental understanding of the K-8 teaching and learning in District 202 and throughout the (interview) process she stressed the value of collaboration with district colleagues, building administrators and teachers alike," Miller-Finlayson said in a statement.

She continued: "She has the capacity to parlay her strong leadership at the elementary level into a district level leadership position in the middle school world."
