WILL COUNTY, IL — Some northbound lanes on I-55 through Will County will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Friday, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. If you're planning on driving this weekend, officials say to expect major delays or use alternate routes.

If weather permits, the lanes, just south of I-80, will undergo pavement patching and repairs through 5 a.m. on Monday. Lanes that will close are between U.S. 6, or Eames Street, and I-80, according to a news release. One northbound lane will remain open at all times.

"Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment," the release said.
