Mother of Murdered Pregnant Woman Suing Home Depot: Report

Alisha Bromfield worked with Brian Cooper, who was convicted this year of her murder.

The mother of a slain pregnant woman is suing the company that employed both her daughter, Alisha Bromfield, and the man who killed her.

Brian Cooper, 37, strangled 21-year-old Bromfield after the two attended his sister’s wedding together in Door County, Wisconsin. Prosecutors said Cooper became enraged after Bromfield, who was more than six months pregnant at the time of her death, refused to rekindle a romantic relationship with him. In May, Cooper was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in the deaths of Bromfield and her unborn daughter.

Now, Bromfield’s mother, Sherry Anicich of Plainfield, is suing Home Depot and and the company that provides flowers to the chain’s Chicago-area stores. According to the Chicago Tribune, Cooper, who was Bromfield’s supervisor at Grand Flower Growers, did not complete anger management counseling as mandated by the company.

The suit alleges that Cooper was known to be “emotionally unstable and violent” and that the companies should have known that he had a “pattern of misconduct and violent tendencies.” It further alleges that Bromfield repeatedly complained to management about Cooper’s behavior — but that no action was taken by the company.

Cooper was sentenced in July to two life sentences without parole.
