New Location for Plainfield Fest 2017

PLAINFIELD, IL -- Spring is here, which means summer is right around the corner, and planning is under way for a local tradition: Plainfield Fest.

The annual festival, which raises money for efforts to revitalize the village's riverfront through the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation, is set for July 15 and 16 and has a big change in store this year: For the first time ever, the event -- now a two-day festival -- will move to West Electric Park. The site, also known as the Plainfield Riverfront Property, is located west of the DuPage River and south of Lockport Street near downtown Plainfield.

Previously, the annual fest has been held downtown, mainly along Lockport Street.

Organizers with the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation explained the change on the Plainfield Fest website, noting that the event has outgrown the downtown area:

The fest has thrived in the downtown Plainfield area for decades, highlighting Will County’s oldest, and scenic beautiful historic downtown community. With the success of drawing increased attendees from all around, the festival has outgrown the downtown corridor. We are excited with our new location, which will include additional space to present what we consider one of the area’s premier summer festivals. A larger venue will also allow for a safe, family friendly event, with a larger carnival, entertainment with increased local & large act performances, dedicated business & crafters expo area, along with some added fun surprises guaranteed to bring SMILES to all!

The festivities won't move far, though: "We also realize we are only a few blocks from the downtown corridor, which offers a historic base to our fest, offering a diverse mix of shops, restaurants, and business services that make our downtown such a valued community asset," organizers said. "Please include a visit to downtown Plainfield during your stay for Plainfield Fest 2017!"

In addition to food vendors, beer tent, a carnival and business/crafter expo, Plainfield Fest also offers live music and entertainment.
