Obituary: William Paul "Bill" Kerschbaum

A long-time Joliet resident, formerly of Lockport passes away at age 82.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Age 82, of Joliet, IL, and formerly of Lockport, IL, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at home, surrounded by family.

He was born June 24, 1941 in Chicago to the late Anna (Wright) and Joseph Kerschbaum. Bill was raised and educated in Oak Lawn, a graduate with the class of 1959 from Oak Lawn High School.

He is the beloved husband of Lorelei "Lori" Kerschbaum; loving father of Tori (Daniel) Hicks and Jodi Burlison (fiance Robert Turley); proud grandfather of Jenelle (Jacob) Lambert, Jordan (Kelsie) Hicks, Nathan (Kristyn) Burlison and Noah Burlison (fiancee Michelle Jurkovic); devoted great-grandpa of William, Auri, Layla and Malakai; dear brother of Frank (Anne) Kerschbaum and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brother, John Kerschbaum and sister JoAnn Schullo.

Bill retired as vice president of sales for Transportation Repairs and Services, Inc. after many years of dedicated service. He served on the board of directors of the Intermodal Association of Chicago.

Music and laughter were staples in the Kerschbaum world and Bill thrived as director of the Blackhawk Chorus of Joliet, later known as the Knights of Harmony. He also loved to golf, however, nothing made him happier than being with his grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral services for William "Bill" Kerschbaum will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church, 2650 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, where all friends and relatives are invited to gather for visitation from 3 p.m. until funeral services begin at 6 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Clarendon Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to St. John Lutheran Church music program.
