Plainfield East High School Teacher's 'Jeopardy!' Journey Ends

The Naperville resident and English teacher returned to the game show a year after making her first appearance.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield East High School teacher's "Jeopardy" journey came to an end, viewers learned Wednesday.

Erin Portman, a resident of Naperville, placed third in the game show that aired Wednesday, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.

The English teacher participated in the 2024 Champions Wildcard Group 1 semifinal game 3 on Jan. 19 and moved on to the quarterfinal game 4 that aired Jan. 31.

Portman was one of two contestants to correctly answer the Final Jeopardy question but did not beat Kansas City contestant Michael Menkhus, who moved on to the finals, the Tribune reported.

Portman, a fan of trivia-style games and a loyal watcher of the show since she was a child, first appeared on "Jeopardy!" in January 2023, Patch reported. She won one episode of the game show, earning $31,201, and advanced to the subsequent Final Jeopardy show, where she nearly won but missed a clue and lost to Troy Meyer.
