Plainfield Harvest 5K is Sunday

It’s time to lace up those running shoes again.

The Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Edward Plainfield Harvest 5K run/walk, which kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Village Green at Fox River and Chicago streets.

"I think this is going to be our biggest event ever," said Dave Colleta, a member of the chamber's board of directors. So far, Colleta said, more than 900 people ahve registered for the race.

Registration fees benefit area charities and organizations including the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry, Green Harvest Food Pantry, The Edward Foundation, the Y.M.C.A. and Plainfield Emergency Management Agency.

Presented once again by Edward Plainfield. The Chicago Area Runners Association-certified race starts and ends at the Village Green, winding its way through downtown Plainfield. To view a course map, click here.

The Kidz Miler starts at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to male and female overall winners, while winners in each age category will receive first-, second- and third-place medals.

On-site registration is at 6:45 a.m. Sunday and costs $35 for adults and $15 for kids.

Runners and walkers can pick up their race packets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Edward Plainfield Campus, 24600 W. 127t St.

At post-race party is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon at Tap House Grill, where race participants will enjoy complimentary food and beverages.

Plainfield police have announced the following road closures, which will begin prior to the start of the race and end around 10:30 a.m:

• James Street from Ottawa Street to Fort Beggs Drive
• Ottawa Street from James St. to Illinois St.
• Commercial Street from James St. to Illinois St.
• Fox River St. between Chicago and Commercial
• Des Plaines St. between Chicago and Commercial
• Illinois St. between Chicago and Commercial.
• Fort Beggs Drive at James Street
• River Road from Fort Beggs Dr. to River Court
• All of River Court

 Parking will be available at Plainfield Central High School, 24120 Fort Beggs Dr.
