Plainfield Homecoming: Parade, Alumni Events, Football Games Planned

PLAINFIELD, IL — The 71st Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade will take to the streets Sept. 30 to bring the community together once more.

The homecoming parade was started by then-Superintendent Walter Niehus in 1952 to celebrate Plainfield High School's homecoming week. It has since grown into a community-wide event.

Lifelong Plainfield resident Bill Pommerening, a 1970 Plainfield High School graduate who owns Valley Concrete, will serve as this year's grand marshal, leading the parade through the streets of downtown Plainfield.

Pommerening has donated his time and materials over the years to support various community projects, including St. Mary Immaculate Parish, the Veterans Memorial Project, and the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, according to Plainfield School District 202 officials.

After the "Toyland"-themed parade, which steps off at 9 a.m., all Plainfield Central High School alumni and friends are invited to attend Alumni Tea in the Main Cafeteria, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, where the Class of 1973 will be honored.

The annual Plainfield High School All Class Reunion will be held from 6:30-11:30 p.m. at the Plainfield American Legion Hall, 24741 W. Renwick Road. The event was started for alumni who weren't attending a milestone reunion that year.

There will be a $10 cash admission at the door for the event, which will feature a cash bar. All alumni and friends of homecoming are welcome, officials said.

Plainfield Central High School

• Varsity football game at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 versus Romeoville High School. The Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place during the game.

Plainfield South High School

• Varsity football game at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 verus Romeoville High School

Plainfield North High School

• Varsity football game at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 verus Oswego East High School

Plainfield East High School

• Varsity football game at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 verus Plainfield Central High School
