Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade: See Planned Road Closures
The annual Hometown Irish Parade and Paddy Day Mile run are planned for St. Patrick's Day in downtown Plainfield.
PLAINFIELD, IL — St. Patrick's Day will paint Plainfield green as the annual Hometown Irish Parade and Paddy Day Mile Run come to town.
Staging and line-up for the parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, with step-off planned for 1 p.m.
While floats are set up, the Paddy Day Mile run will begin around 12:25 p.m. The race will start at Lockport and Des Plaines streets and follow a path that will lead back to the intersection.

The St. Patrick's Day parade will travel north on James Street, east on Commercial Street, north on Illinois Street, west on Lockport Street, and south on James Street back to Plainfield Central High School.
As a result of the busy day, Plainfield police warned of several road closures that will impact traffic, especially in the downtown area. Officials encourage anyone not participating in the St. Patrick's Day events to avoid the area between noon and 3 p.m.

Des Plaines Street north of Lockport Street and south of Oak Street will close at 5 a.m. to make way for bleachers meant for parade viewing. The area will reopen shortly after the parade ends.
Crowd barriers and traffic barricades will be set up along Lockport, James, Illinois and Commercial streets. Parking on the four streets will also be restricted starting at 11 a.m., meaning any cars left within the parade route will be towed at the owners' expense.
The following roads will close at 12:15 p.m. and reopen at about 3 p.m.:
- James Street from Fort Beggs Drive to Lockport Street
- Lockport Street from Main Street to Route 59
- Illinois Street from Lockport to Commercial streets
- Commercial Street from Illinois to James streets
- Chicago Street from Route 59 to Fox River Street
- Ottawa Street from Route 59 to James Street
- Des Plaines Street from Oak to Commercial streets
- Fox River Street from Lockport to Commercial streets
Route 59 will not close for the events, but police said the street will be backed up with traffic.
Parking areas will be designated at Plainfield Central High School; village municipal parking lots on Des Plaines Street, across from Oak Street; next to the library on Illinois Street; and at the riverfront area west of Electric Park, officials said. A limited number of accessible parking spots will be designated on Des Plaines Street north of the alley south of Oak Street.
