Plainfield OKs $5.8 Million Pace Park-N-Ride

As part of an agreement with Pace, the village will be reimbursed for the costs.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Weeks after a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Pace park-n-ride to serve area commuters, village trustees officially signed off on the project, voting Nov. 20 to rezone farmland on Van Dyke Road from single-family residential to I-1, or office, research and light industrial.

Village officials participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the park-n-ride, to be developed on village-owned property east of Van Dyke and Wood Farm roads and south of 143rd Street. An open house for the facility was held Sept. 14.

The 10-acre project calls for 400 parking spots with an option to add 200 more, plus a 1,000-square-foot shelter with restrooms. The project is being built on a 58-acre parcel that was purchased by the village to build a rail station what never materialized.

According to the village, the park-n-ride will be open and ready for commuters by summer 2018.
