Plainfield Opens Warming Center As Wind Chills Expected To Drop 35 Below Zero
The temporary warming center will operate as a warming center while a Wind Chill Advisory is in place by the National Weather Service.
PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department will serve as a warming center as wind chills are expected to drop up to 35 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
The lobby at police headquarters, 14300 Coil Plus Drive, will be open to anyone who needs relief from the cold, officials said Thursday morning.
Amenities include a warm space, restrooms and assistance if additional services are needed, police said.

The dangerous cold begins Thursday night into Friday morning, and bitter cold will continue through the weekend, Patch reported. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Jan. 27.

Currently, the weather service is forecasting a high of minus 2 Thursday night, with wind chills as low as 35 below zero, and a high of minus 5 degrees on Friday with wind chills as low as 25 below zero.
"No one should be out in dangerous cold," Plainfield police said. "If you or someone you know needs a warm place, we’re here for you."
Anyone in need of assistance should call the department's non-emergency number at 815-436-2341, unless the situation dictates calling 911.
