PLAINFIELD, IL — Locals ready to show off their weight-pulling skills will have the chance to do so at the upcoming fourth-annual Armored Truck Challenge hosted by the Plainfield Police Department.

Several teams of five will compete on Aug. 2 to see who can pull an empty armored truck 75 feet the fastest. Weighing about 38,000 pounds, an empty armored truck is undoubtedly a challenge to pull, but teams have completed the distance in a minute or two in prior competitions, Patch reported.

An armored truck from Plainfield's own fleet will be used for the event, taking place at Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport St. Each team takes turns pulling the truck the 75 feet and their time is recorded. The truck is then pulled back to the starting line until all teams participate and a winner is declared.

Check in on the day of the event will start at 6 p.m., and the event will begin at 7 p.m. If the weather doesn't cooperate on the scheduled day, organizers have set Aug. 9 — same place and time — as the rain date.

Each team will have to pay a $150 entry fee, with money raised benefiting Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. To register, interested participants have until July 29 to contact AnnaMarie Flood by calling 815-267-7235 or emailing aflood@plainfieldpd.com.

The challenge will take place in conjunction with Cruise Nights and National Night Out where visitors can partake in family-friendly activities. At the event, people can grab free hot dogs and ice cream as well as swag from local businesses. Plainfield's National Night Out will also feature a challenge to dunk a police officer or firefighter, bounce houses, Touch-A-Truck and live music.

Visitors can also bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry to help fill the prisoner transport van with donations, police said.
