PLAINFIELD, IL — Ahead of the new school year starting in Plainfield School District 202, police are working with new teachers to conduct lockdown training.

The training, also known by the acronym ALICE — which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate — will take place during orientation week, police said.

"We continue to work together with District 202 to enhance the safety at all of our buildings for students and staff," officials wrote in a Facebook post Monday.

The first day of school for most students in Plainfield is Aug. 18.
