Plainfield's Melissa McCarthy Wins Emmy For Sean Spicer Impression
Her take on the former White House press secretary was a hit on SNL.

Plainfield native Melissa McCarthy boosted "Saturday Night Live" ratings this year with her over-the-top impersonation of former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Over the weekend, the role — which had her spraying a water gun at the White House press pool and driving a podium through the streets of New York City — earned her an Emmy.
McCarthy, who recently made Forbes' list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, took home the award for best guest actress on a comedy series during Sunday's creative arts awards as part of the lead-up to next weekend's Emmy Awards ceremony.
McCarthy earned accolades and got big laughs portraying the gum-chewing "Spicey," often using dolls to explain her statements to White House reporters and becoming outraged at their questions.

Spicer wasn't so entertained by her performance, telling Fox News' Sean Hannity that portrayals of himself and President Donald Trump on SNL were "over the line." Spicer added, "It wasn't funny. It was stupid, or silly, or malicious." (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
"Bridesmaids" star McCarthy, who attended St. Mary Immaculate School in Plainfield and graduated from St. Francis Academy (now Joliet Catholic Academy) previously won MTV's "comedic genius" award, as well as a 2011 Emmy for her performance on "Mike & Molly."
