Police Warn Of Congestion Ahead Of 4th Of July Fireworks, Picnic

Plainfield's Patriotic Picnic starts at 6 p.m., followed by an Independence Day fireworks show scheduled to begin at about 9 p.m. July 3.

PLAINFIELD, IL — With the 4th of July just around the corner, it's time to start planning activities for celebration. Ahead of an events-filled day on Independence Day in Plainfield, police warn residents of closed streets and extra congestion.

To celebrate the country's birthday, the returning Patriotic Picnic is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. July 3 at Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, followed by the fireworks show starting at about 9 p.m.

Viewers are encouraged to use the parking lots at Plainfield Central, St. Mary Immaculate Parish and Greg Bott Community Park. At the park, fireworks viewing will only be allowed at the south soccer fields, police said.

Throughout the evening, temporary parking restrictions will be posted at these locations:

  • Renwick Road between Hometown Drive and Spangler's Farm Drive
  • Fort Beggs Drive
  • River Road

A few road closures will also take place July 3.

  • The baseball fields and bike path at Greg Bott Community Park will close at about 10 a.m.
  • The playground at the park will close at about 8:30 p.m.
  • Fort Beggs Drive will close from 6 p.m. to about 10:30 p.m.

Police are also reminding participants that no alcohol will be permitted in any parking lots or viewing areas.
