Registration Opens For Plainfield Citizen's Police, Fire Academy

Once a week for 12 weeks, residents will have a chance to learn about Plainfield's police and fire departments and their staff's duties.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Registration is open for Plainfield's free Citizen's Police and Fire Academy that starts April 4.

The program offers Plainfield residents and business owners the chance to learn about their local police and fire departments and their staff's duties. Held Tuesday nights at in the community room at various locations throughout Plainfield, classes will discuss topics including crime scene processing, vehicle extrication and emergency response, among others.

Personnel from the Plainfield police, fire and ambulance departments will teach the classes, whose curriculum is designed to be both informative and beneficial for students, officials said.

The program, held jointly by the Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield Fire Protection District, will run for 12 weeks, and each session will run from 7-9 p.m. from April 4 to June 20. The class is open to 25 people, and organizers encourage interested residents to sign up as soon as possible before spots fill up.

Applications can be found online or picked up from the Plainfield Police Department during normal business hours — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
