Resurfacing On I-55 Through Will County To Cause 'Major Travel Delays'
Patching and resurfacing projects on a 13.6-mile stretch of the Stevenson Expressway, from Weber Road to I-80, will begin Aug. 15.

WILL COUNTY, IL — Drivers traveling through Will County on I-55 should buckle up and get ready to sit in some extra traffic starting Aug. 15, officials at the Illinois Department of Transportation said Monday.
Patching and resurfacing projects will begin on a 13.6-mile stretch of the Stevenson Expressway, from Weber Road to I-80. The project, impacting both travel directions, is expected to be completed in spring 2023.
The construction will result in overnight and weekend lane closures. Officials are anticipating "major travel delays," and are encouraging drivers to find alternate routes.

Closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and weekend closures will start at 9 p.m. Fridays and last until 10 a.m. Sundays. At least one lane in each direction will remain open, officials said.
The project is part of Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois capital program, which invests $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation throughout the state.
