Sox Academy Hitting, Pitching 'Clubs' Coming to Creekside

The four-week programs will teach the baseball 'absolutes' led by academy coaches.

February may feel as far away from spring as you can get, but that won't stop the Chicago White Sox from holding a hitting clinic at Creekside Elementary School later this month.

Sponsored by the Chicago Bulls/Chicago White Sox Training Academy, instructors will be using its White Sox Hitting Club to teach a step-by-step approach to "hitting like a Major League" player, according a team release.

The four-week program is open to boys and girls starting Feb. 28. Children ages 6 to 8 will meet from 6 to 7:15 p.m. and ages 9 to 11 will meet from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $95 per student. The school is located at 13909 S. Budler Road, Plainfield.

Classes will focus on hitting "absolutes," including plate coverage and stance, striding into a hitting position, swing plane/hand path, footwork and balance, the release said. Hitting Coach Greg Walker will lead the program, and Jim Adduci, the academy's director of regional baseball operations, will make an appearance.

The academy is also planning a Pitching Club at Creekside for April 4 to 25. The times and costs will be the same as the hitting program. Pitching classes will focus on grips, arm action, balance points, and pitching from the wind up and the stretch, the release said.
