From village hall to local schools, a look at holiday closings, plus what's open on Thanksgiving.

PLAINFIELD, IL — It's almost time to sit down with the family and feast on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. While some people — including employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed, giving workers a day off.

Here's list of what's open and what's closed in Plainfield.

  • Post office: Closed
  • Federal offices: Closed
  • Village of Plainfield: City offices are closed. Garbage collection will be delayed a day.
  • Will County offices, including the circuit clerk's office, courts, health department and more will be closed on Thanksgiving
  • Plainfield schools: Closed
  • Plainfield library: Closed
  • Banks: Closed
  • Gas stations: Open
  • Retail stores: Some will be closed, some — including area grocery stores — will be open. Walmart, for instance, will be open, but the deals don't start until 6 p.m. Other retailers have decided to take a stance against opening on Thanksgiving. Call ahead to make sure.
