Tornado Siren Out Of Service In Plainfield

Due to construction, the siren at Route 30 and 119th will be out of service for more than a week.

PLAINFIELD IL — Road construction near Route 30 and 119th Street has resulted in the temporary relocation of the outdoor tornado/warning siren, which has been moved about a quarter-mile east to 119th and Normantown Road, Plainfield police said.

The siren will be out of order for 10 to 14 days while the power is connected. All other sirens in the village are operational.

"This move should have minimal affect on coverage within the Village limits," police said on Facebook, adding a note for residents:

Outdoor warning sirens are only intended to alert people outdoors, not to warn people inside houses/structures. It is strongly encouraged everybody be aware of weather conditions if planning outdoor activities, as well as purchase an NOAA approved weather alerting radio to provide immediate notification of impending Watches or Warnings in the Plainfield area. Emergency personnel will work to provide additional warnings to anyone outdoors if the circumstances and time allow.
