Vote Set For Wednesday As D202 Bus Drivers Reach Tentative Agreement

District officials said they're "cautiously optimistic" about the situation after First Student bus drivers threatened to strike Tuesday.

"District 202 is not directly involved other than to make clear how much this situation inconveniences our community," officials said in an email to the community Tuesday.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield School District 202 officials said they're "cautiously optimistic" after bus drivers reached a tentative agreement with the district's contractor, First Student.

"Although there has been progress, nothing has been finalized yet," Tom Hernandez, director of community relations, said in a message Tuesday. "There will be a vote on the contract ... Wednesday."

Money was the source of the conflict that led to a contract that included a "solid offer" and "good raise" for drivers, according to reports from CBS News. Bus service will remain uninterrupted if the vote passes but could cause service interruptions if it doesn't, CBS reported.

While District 202 officials said they'll provide an update about the situation at 6 a.m. Wednesday, they continue to encourage parents to make alternate transportation plans for Wednesday.
