Woman Accidentally Shoots Herself In Leg While In Car: Fire Chief
The ramp to enter northbound I-55 from Route 126 in Plainfield is temporarily closed while Illinois State Police investigate the area.
PLAINFIELD, IL — A woman accidentally shot herself in the upper leg Friday morning and has been taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to Fire Chief Jon Stratton.
The woman was taking the gun out of her purse to hand to someone in the car when it accidentally went off, Stratton told Patch. She was conscious and breathing before being taken to the hospital, he said.
The fire department responded to the intersection of Route 126 and Essington Road around 11:14 a.m. The ramp from Route 126 leading to northbound I-55 temporarily closed while Illinois State Police investigate the scene, according to the Plainfield Police Department.
