• Tree companies donate services at Camp Butler National Cemetery (illinoistimes.com) — Tree service crews from Springfield, Champaign, and Bloomington spent Sept. 16 improving historic Camp Butler National Cemetery, just outside Riverton, by removing hazardous trees and planting new oaks. Led by local arborist Steve Green, the volunteer effort saved the cemetery significant maintenance costs while honoring veterans and their families at one of Illinois’ most important Civil War sites.
   

• MHS Class of 1961 65th Reunion (communitynewsmarket.com) — A Macomb High School Class of 1961 reunion on Sept. 13 brought together 15 classmates and guests, including alum Lois Johnson Dunbar of Riverton. Attendees shared memories, photos, and snacks at the Macomb VFW and are already planning a 67th reunion in 2028, keeping long-distance connections like Riverton’s tie to the class alive.
